Hank Jones was a consummate musician. As is so often the case, that description carries the implication that such a person is unflamboyant, somewhat reserved, and that their artistry is more appreciated by fellow workers than by the public. A Musicians musician. In discussing Jones, this is compounded by the fact that, as well as a brilliant and inventive soloist, he was also a sensitive and stimulating accompanist.
