TASTING NOTES
APPEARANCE: Bright ruby red.
AROMA: A nose rich in fleshy strawberries, dark cherries and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
PALATE: On the palate there's sweet black fruits and savoury oak. Not shy of tannin and a clear line of acidity focusing on the palate and driving a long finish.
REGION NOTES
Sourced from multiple vineyards, mainly from the lower Yarra Valley, around the townships Yarra Glen, Dixon's Creek and Coldstream. Each vineyard brings a different fruit profile due to aspect and clones, increasing the complexity of the wine.
VINIFICATION
The final blend is made up of ten different components as there were many different winemaking techniques involved. Some fruit went to static fermenters while other components were fermented in open pots. The whole bunch component in this wine is only about 5%. In general, the ferments started cool and peaked at around 30 degrees, total time on skins was on average 8 days. Once pressed the wine was matured in a mix of stainless-steel tanks and conditioned French oak for seven months before bottling.
MATURATION
7 months.
VINTAGE NOTES
Vintage 2021 was a very good one... a goldilocks vintage where everything was just right. Crop levels were slightly above the long-term average, summer temperatures were moderate, and the grapes had a beautifully dry February to ripen. However, the vintage was not without challenge, the higher-than-average rainfall through Spring and January kept the vineyard teams on their toes. But the resulting wines are well balanced, with moderate alcohol, zippy acid...and high levels of deliciousness.
