The Story of Mitsubishi AGM Zero:

The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" is a long-range carrier-based fighter aircraft formerly manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Company. The Zero is the iconic fighter of the Japanese Empire and is considered to have been the most capable carrier-based fighter in the world when it was introduced early in World War II, combining excellent maneuverability and very long range.

The Zero was a thoughtfully designed plane. The plane was to have a top speed of 500 km/h, and it has the capability of flying 2 hours at max speed, and 6 to 8 hours at cruising speed with drop tanks. Armaments consisted of two 7.7mm machine guns, two 20mm cannons and two 60 kg bombs, which were incredibly heavy armaments for fighters of that era. Thin elliptical wings minimised drag along with state-of-the-art flush riveting. Its frame was entirely made from new-age hardened aluminium. On top of this, holes were cut into the frame to reduce weight.

Some sacrifices were made to the design of the plane to achieve the ambitious range requirement of the Imperial Japanese Army. Like its weak armouring and the lack of self-sealing fuel tanks.
