Bajadasaurus Pronuspinax
Announced only in 2019, the Bajadasaurus pronuspinaxwhose name translates to 'Bajada reptile bent over forwards'is a spectacular herbivorous sauropod dinosaur related to the Amargasaurus. This remarkable creature once roamed the Early Cretaceous forward river valleys in Northern Patagonia. It is estimated to have grown possibly 9 to 10 meters in length, standing about the height of the present-day Indian elephant.
The relatively short neck of the Bajadasaurus was adorned with a striking set of spines, pointing forwards, which may have served as a defence mechanism against predators. These distinctive spines make the Bajadasaurus one of the most unique and fascinating dinosaurs discovered to date.
