Made exclusively for EOS-R full-frame cameras, the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens sports a medium field of view that is ideal for close-up images. When taking portraits or macro shots, its 100mm focal length and f/2.8 maximum aperture ensure that the pictures are clear and bright. Meanwhile, its autofocus can either provide sharp images or soft focus for dramatic bokeh effects.
You can focus subjects for as close as 10.2 inches and adjust glare through the spherical aberration control ring. Likewise, the Super Spectra coating reduces ghosting, especially during strong lighting conditions. Finally, this Canon RF Macro Lens allows you to capture steady shots through its Hybrid Image Stabilization that has five stops of camera shake.
Product Features:
Close focus
Featuring 17 lens elements in 13 groups, the frame can be fully occupied by an object that is just 25 x 17 mm big. Therefore, the focus distance must be 28cm if you are using 1x magnification. At 1.4x, the minimum focus distance is 26cm and the working distance is 8.6 cm. Any shadow on such close focus may disrupt the picture. Therefore, you must remove the lens hood and use ample lights that enhance macro lenses even further.
SA Control
The Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro has a separate spherical aberration control ring to adjust bokeh effect levels by moving a lens element or two to adjust the aberration level. You can access either a bubble-type bokeh that concentrates light within a certain circle or defocused backgrounds that focus the light on the center of what's called the circle of confusion. You may also use the aperture blade to dial-up on out-of-focus accents.
Optical Image Stabilization
On its own, the Canon RF 100 f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens has five stops of optical image stabilization that help maintain image sharpness. But combine it with newer EOS R cameras and that number goes up to eight stops. IS is important in macro lenses because hand movements can vastly change the image. However, its effectiveness lessens as you get closer to the subject. But this lens has Hybrid Image Stabilization which still works even at close distances. Pair that with the lens' two Nano USM motors and you get to focus on small subjects quickly and efficiently.
